Who we are?

Job Heimans (De Fundering) and Steven Steenbrugge (Studio Steenbrugge) first met over the drawing board when they collaborated on transforming the former Volkskrant building in Amsterdam into a hotel, now 10 years ago. Their success in creating comfortable places for travelers increasingly sharpened their awareness of the inadequate facilities for asylum seekers and for people experiencing homelessness in cities such as Amsterdam, Rotterdam, and Berlin. In response, they set out to design a shelter that is affordable, practical, efficient, and—crucially—offers privacy for people temporarily needing a bed: the Emergency Cabin was born. Stefanie Nijenbandring de Boer joined the team to develop the concept further, test prototypes, and prepare the design for the market.
